Inauguration of Warsaw University of Technology Investment Factory

On January 31, 2024, Warsaw University of Technology will host the inauguration of the Warsaw University of Technology Investment Factory (WUT IF) fund in the Small Hall of the Main Building, as well as an accompanying workshop with foreign experts in the area of VC funds operating at universities.

The upcoming event - in addition to the inauguration of the WUT IF - will also provide an opportunity to talk about the commercialization of scientific research, which plays a key role worldwide in transforming academic discoveries into marketable products and services. It's a process that links research and business, contributing to economic and social development. Different countries and institutions use diverse approaches and strategies to effectively implement research results, creating ecosystems that support innovation and entrepreneurship.

During the event, we will present the assumptions for the operation of the WUT IF, which aims to become a leading institution in this area in Poland and Europe.

After the official part, we have scheduled a workshop led by Jamie Macfarlane (Creator Fund) and Dr. Sarah Theinert (UVC Partners) on aspects of VC funds operating at universities. This meeting will be aimed primarily at representatives of university start-ups and spin-offs.

The workshop presenters have years of experience and expertise in their field. Jamie Macfarlane founded Creator Fund in 2019. While studying for his MBA at Stanford Business School, he saw how many of the world's leading technology companies were founded on American campuses. Since then, he has scaled Creator Fund at 28 universities and built a portfolio of more than 25 companies.

Sarah Theinert is director of partnerships and value creation at UVC Partners, a venture capital firm that connects startups to a network of more than 150 corporations through a close partnership with Munich-based UnternehmerTUM (UTUM), Europe's leading innovation center. Theinert has a dual role: she is responsible for managing relationships with corporate partners who want to explore opportunities with UVC Partners' portfolio companies, but also for supporting the startup portfolio as an expert in go-to-market, marketing and sales strategies.
